Tony McFarr, a celebrated Hollywood stunt double known for his work with Chris Pratt, passed away in May, leaving a profound impact on the close-knit stunt community.
According to documents obtained by TMZ from the Orange County Medical Examiner in Florida, McFarr’s death was due to an irregular heartbeat linked to a heart valve issue. This condition was likely worsened by his excessive alcohol consumption, which led to acute alcohol poisoning. The autopsy also cited chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as a contributing factor.
COPD, a serious lung condition, is often caused by prolonged exposure to harmful substances like cigarette smoke. It can lead to breathing difficulties, coughing, and increased risk of heart disease and lung cancer.
McFarr’s toxicology report revealed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .29 at the time of his death, well above the legal driving limit and high enough to cause coma or death. His body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition, and his death was ruled accidental.
Known for his impressive stunt work in blockbuster films such as “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Pitch Perfect 3,” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” McFarr also appeared on popular TV shows like “Bones,” “Teen Wolf,” “Homeland,” and “The Walking Dead.” His collaboration with Chris Pratt began with “Jurassic World” in 2015 and continued through several successful projects. Pratt frequently praised McFarr for his exceptional skill and dedication.
Donna McFarr, Tony’s mother, shared the news of her son’s passing with TMZ, describing it as sudden and shocking. The exact cause of death is still being further investigated through toxicology tests.
Despite his active and healthy appearance, McFarr’s untimely death is a significant loss for his family and the film industry. He is survived by his parents, sister, and daughter, and will be laid to rest in Pennsylvania near his grandmother.
Tony McFarr’s legacy as a stunt performer will be remembered for his bravery and commitment to safely executing dangerous scenes. His work has significantly contributed to the thrilling and dynamic experiences enjoyed by audiences worldwide.
